The Hispanics in the metropolitan area of Washington will have a big opportunity to find out and to do preventive examinations to him thanks to the Binational Week of Health.

From 13 on October 21, the Hispanics will have the only opportunity to be able to gain access to preventive medical services and information of health. This megaevent will spread from 13 until October 21, and a series of organizations, like the consulates of El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and Colombia, along with the totality of agencies that shape the Metropolitan Council for the Latin Health; they have joined in this effort.
This idea was born in California, in the year 2001, and it has taken with such force at national level that last year they attended to 300 thousand persons in 31 states.
For this year, a series of events has been organized for each of the days that are part of the Binational Week of Health. This way, on October 13 it is the opening in the Multicultural Festival of Woodbrigde.
October 14 has been declared by the Day of the Youth and the Adolescence, and Planned Parenthood has organized a sandungueo of high level.
15, the whole community joins in the Latin National Day of the Campaign to raise public awareness of the AIDS. In this date a community forum will be carried out in the Church All Souls of NW.
In October 16, there will be a forum of public politics on health and migration.
The men will have his day 17, when a series of events concentrates on everything related to health for them.

October is the Month of Knowledge of the Crib death (known like SIDS, for his initials in English).
There is called he SIDS to the sudden death of a child under the age of one year, also called cradle death, because most of babies die sleeping.
The sudden one is the third cause of children's death in the United States and the prime mover of death between the children from 28 until 364 days of age. Most of the deaths of SIDS happen when a baby is between two and four months of the age.
His cause is not known, nevertheless, certain precautions they can be taken to reduce the risk.
Although the general SIDS valuation in the United States has diminished more than 50 % from 1990, the valuations have diminished less between the minorities.

An investigators' new book of the Institute of Social research of the University of Michigan, UM (In English, Social Institute for Research, ISR) offers an answer. The models of success or educational defeat settle for most of the adolescents when they come at the end of eighth grade, while the use of drugs only begins from this stage.

The psychologists continued a national sample of more than three thousand young people for eight years from half of the adolescence, at the age of 14, until the beginning of the adult age, in general at the age of 22. This is the period in which some young people leaves the school, they graduate or many continue his education in universities. Also it is a period on which many experiment with cigarets, alcohol and illicit drugs, turning into regular consumers of these substances.
Details of the volume
Bachman is the principal author of “The Connection between the Education and the use of Drugs: How are successes and defeats in the school related in spite of smoking, drinking, I use of drugs and crime in adolescents”.
The book presents a new group of discoveries of the Project Observing the Future of the ISR that has studied the use of drugs in young people and adults for more than 30 years. The new ones base on a wide national sample of adolescents who were interviewed for the first time in the eighth year of the school in the year in three different groups in 1991, 1992 and 1993 and then there was completed a series of interviews of pursuit with intervals of two years.
In this sense, the investigators discovered that the strongest and longer effects against the precocious educational success are not drinking or consuming illicit drugs, but the use of cigarets.
The investigators also discovered that early educational experiences like bad well-known, suspensions or expulsion of the school predict the use of illegal drugs as marijuana and cocaine.
Nevertheless, the effects of educational defeats in the use of marijuana or cocaine were minor and not so lasting as the impact produced by cigarets.
