“The flu H1N1 can force the workpeople to remain at home, for the same we him want to ask the employers to take into consideration the current situation”. There affirms Hilda Solís, Secretary of the Work.
Apparently, the days of major anxiety for the advance without control of the influenza A/H1N1, also known like porcine flu, it seems to have stayed behind.
While the scientists investigate the reasons of the biggest aggressiveness of the virus in Mexico, and the porqué this one was not the same way mortal in other parts of the balloon, the authorities of health of the country will concentrate his look to what it happens in the autumn, when the influenza period begins in the north hemisphere.
In this epoch one believes that the influenza H1N1 does his reappearance. At the same time, in the winter of the south hemisphere one hopes that the epidemiologists should watch closely the evolution of the virus.
The appearance of this flu has caused several phenomena. In some parts of the country one has spoken about a “immigrants' flu”, and the possible effect that it has in the future in the workpeople is giving concern between the authorities of the country.
One of her is the secretary of the Work, Hilda Solís. As ex-deputy chief of the Commission of Health of the House of Representatives, Solís has knowledge of these topics and he is a part of the team that has prepared an answer for this situation. For the same, it conversed with SaludGuía after the celebrations of May 5 that the department of the Work did for the first time, in which there was inaugurated an exhibition of Latin art and of photos of Latin workpeople, a tree reached honor to the Hispanic members of the armed forces who have died in the wars of Iraq and Afghanistan and tribute to a soldier was paid that in this moment Walter Reed recovers in the Hospital.
“ We must not be afraid”
The first thing to what the secretary of the Work referred is to the cases of discrimination that they have been brought since the flu originated in Mexico and that most of the cases were related to recent trips to this country.
“ That has existed a little of negative publicity towards our community as for the coverage. I want to allow him to know to the people that the Administration of the President Obama knows about this and has been very respectful in this sense. As Mexicans' descendant, I know the sensibility of the community in this sense and want that the persons know that they must be neither afraid nor panic and that they communicate to the authorities if there are an object of some type of harassment or things like that”, said Solís.
“ The employers must understand this health crisis”
Other one of the worries of Hilda Solís is in the fact that the possible reappearance of the flu in winter probably forces many persons to remain at home, what can reverberate negatively in his works.
“ We do not have to be afraid. If there are persons who are sick the first thing that they must do is to find out where to look for medical help. We want to make sure that the persons are looking after and if they must remain at home and lose working days, the employers must understand that, the same if it is that they must take care of his children. Many persons neither have health coverage free days nor can take for illness. This compromises his skill of remaining at home. For the same we him want to ask the employers to take into consideration the current situation. Apparently the flu sprouts are calming down but we must be resilientes and be alert, especially in the Latin community”.
“ We are preparing ourselves for the winter”
With the intention of facing the winter period of the best way, Hilda Solís pointed out that the Administration of Health and Occupational Safety (OSHA, for his acronym in English), a division of the Department of the federal Work, is planning the best way of placing programs at the disposal of the workpeople who could relieve the possible impact that this flu could cause in the cold months.
“ We still do not know what is going to happen, but the department OSHA we have a plan and our work is to deliver orientation and guides whom they must answer first to emergencies (first responders in English), and must identify to possible infected, like workpeople of the Frontier Patrol or of Customs or Immigration. Also we will have to administer programs that can be necessary in the case that some persons are dismissed or could not work because they have been infected. Our work will be to see what type of programs can help them if they cannot obtain income. In the case that he is federal personnel probably they will be covered by a program of labor absence. But if they are employed at the private sector it is probable that they are discovered and it is something that we should see to determine what type of programs could be made available across emergency scholarships for helping the people”.
May is the month of education of this condition, says Lina Younes, spokeswoman of the EPA
Very much eye with the asthma

In the country, approximately two million Hispanics suffer from asthma. This condition of the airways attacks with major force in spring. That's why the Agency of Environmental Protection (EPA, for his acronym in English), is embarked in a campaign to inform the public about the peculiarities of the asthma, and you piss on it important, how to prepare it.
“ May is the month of the campaign to raise public awareness of the asthma and our intention is to educate the public in general on the measures that they can take in his hearths to take a healthy life and to handle this illness. We do not know with true science what causes the asthma, but yes we know that there are environmental factors that affect this condition and unleash attacks”, says the Hispanic spokeswoman of EPA, Lina Younes. If he wants to know more information about this condition, he can visit www.epa.gov/espanol.
— What are these factors?
“ There is desencadenantes inside and in the exterior. Inside, there is the second-hand smoke, the mold, the mites of dust and the allergic ones of cockroaches or other plagues, as well as the dandruff of the animals. In the exterior, there is the environmental contamination, all kinds of varieties of pollen, the oxide of nitrogen and the high level of ozone in the warm months”.
— How can the parents know if his son has asthma?
“ Some symptoms make alike enough to the allergies, but they are severer, with annoyance to the airways, especially tightness in the lungs. All this generates respiratory problems. When it is a severe attack to the persons they lack the air and they resort to the emergencies. That's why we want to educate the persons to whom they identify the factors that unleash these attacks to avoid a critical situation that forces them to go to the hospital”.
— How is it possible to face to the asthma?
“ It is important that the persons go to the doctor to develop a plan of action that allows them to handle the asthma. As soon as the plan was done, make a participant everybody that is related to the child, including the school, to know what to do. Another suggestion is monitorear the quality index of the air every day, if the air is not very favorable it is necessary to limit the activities in the exterior during the hours of critical quality”.

The best way of cooking the vegetables to support his antirust powers depends on the type of vegetable of which it is a question, isegún a Spanish investigation.
To cook the vegetables in the microwave oven or grilled is usually the best thing, while to boil and to place in pressure cookers would be the worst alternatives, although exceptions exist to this rule.
The team observed how there was turning out to be affected the aptitude of 20 different vegetables to neutralize three types of free radicals as if they were boiled, he was cooking in pressure cooker, he was baking, placing in microwave, grilled or they were fried.
The effects changed extensively between the different methods, the investigators revealed. Only one vegetable, the alcaucil, supported all his antirust power beyond the form in which it was cooked.
Some vegetables had major antirust capacity after being cooked of certain way, for example the asparagus after being boiled and the eggplants after being freídas.
Most of the methods of cooking were preserving the antirust capacity of the early ones, the beet and the garlic. As well as, all the methods except the boiling were increasing the antirust activity of the celery.
In general, the cooking in microwave oven or grilled was the best thing at the time of preserving the antirust capacity of the vegetables.
The corn was the exception, since it lost about 35 per cent of his aptitude to resist to the free radicals after being cooked in microwave oven.
To boil and to cook in pressure cookers generally provoked the biggest loss of antirust power of the vegetables.
To fry proved to be a little better than these two methods and it seemed to have worse effect than the microwave or the iron.

Flu, cold or allergy?
For Dr. Elmer Huerta
The director Preventorium del Cáncer
Jessica has sneezes, red eyes, dense nose, cold and cough, and immediately he says: Moan my God, already I caught a cold.
Carlos has sneezes, red eyes, dense nose, cold and cough, and immediately he says: Moan my God, already gave me the flu.
Patrician it has sneezes, red eyes, dense nose, cold and cough, and immediately he says: Moan my God, already began the allergy to me again.
Does exist any way of differentiating if a person who presents the same symptoms has flu, cold or an allergy? Yes it is possible, and to know this difference is important because the complications, the treatment and the course of the process are very different in these three illnesses.
To start, these three sufferings have different causes. The cold is caused by some of two hundred types of well-known viruses as rinovirus or respiratory viruses, which have a very special aptitude to hurt almost exclusively in the respiratory system. The flu or influenza is caused by some of also hundreds of virus of the flu, virus that not only they attack to the respiratory system, but they have also an effect more generalized in the organism (or as it is called in medicine, a more systemic action). For his part, the allergies are not infectious illnesses but there are rather a consequence of an exaggerated reaction of the system of defense to the stimulus of causative substances of allergy (alérgenos); therefore, in contrast to the cold and the flu, the allergies are not contagious.
The second important aspect to differentiate these sufferings (especially allergies of colds and flu) is the time. If it is that the problem lasts from 5 until 7 days, it is possible that it is a flu or a cold, but the allergies, depending on the contact time with the substances that cause them, generally they last entire months. It is not strange that the people with allergies say that “he suffers from 15 to 20 flu a year”, or as they say: "I am with flu all the time”. The flu and the colds are infectious illnesses that last a few days and do not repeat themselves often. An adult person can have from 2 to 3 colds and one to two flu per year, the small children can suffer up to 8 colds to the year and one or two flu in the same time. As we said, while the person is in contact with the substances that cause the allergies, the symptoms are constant, persistent and lasting.
Knowing that the factor time is fundamental to differentiate the allergies of the cold and the flu, let's see now how the above mentioned they can differentiate two illnesses. To say it briefly, the difference between a cold and a flu is that “the cold concentrates on the head”, while the flu affects the whole body.
The colds “concentrate on the nose”. It starts with sneezes, nasal congestion, liquid nasal cold and sometimes ardor in the gullet. Almost there is no fever (except in small children) and almost there are no general symptoms like discomfort, lacking in appetite, pain of muscles and of bones. The flu for his part, fond the whole body and weariness starts any minute now with high fever in children and adults, accompanied by severe muscular pain, lacking in appetite and severe decay. The people describe what he feels saying that it seems that “a truck had spent it superficially”. There exists also nasal congestion, cold, sneezes and a major pain and reddening of the gullet.
On having been viral illnesses, neither the flu nor the cold are treated by antibiotics. This is very important given the bad custom of the people that to the minor sneeze and dolorcito of gullet it is already automedicándose with antibiotics.
The colds go on in one week to the maximum thing and it is strange that they are complicated, although in some cases they can cause sinusitis, earache or bronchitis. The flu for his part is much more treacherous because it can be complicated by serious pneumonias, especially in very small children, weak elders or persons who are receiving some type of treatment that diminishes his defense system. In fact, only in the United States, every year, almost 40 thousand persons die for the flu.
It is important to know also that the flu has prevention: there exists a vaccine that must be got for children younger than 5 years, adults older than 65 years and for persons who are receiving some type of treatment that debilitates the defense system: cancer, transplant of organs, diabetes, arthritis or lupus.
In addition to repeating to them that it is not necessary to take antibiotics for these illnesses, our final recommendation is always to have the family doctor to consult it in case a complication appears.
Finally, it is an important knowledge that, in addition to the sneezes, the hands are the principal vehicle of contagion of the cold and the flu (also of course of many other infectious illnesses). To teach the children to wash his/her/its hands in the house is fundamental like measurement of control of infectious illnesses.
