Tribute to the victims of the slavery

For many, the capture of oath of a son of Africa as President of the United States of America this year constituted a milestone in an epic initiated more than 400 years ago. In the whole America and the Caribbean Sea, the progeny of the biggest forced migration of the history has fought tenaciously for the long time for the justice, the assimilation and the respect, and keep on doing it.

The “International Day of Rememoración of the Victims of the Slavery and It Treats it Transatlantic of Slaves” (that was celebrated on Wednesday, the 25th of March), it is a tribute to the millions of African that were started violently of his ground native and submitted to the slavery. The estimations of the number of million transported men and women are diverse, but the legacy of this vile traffic cannot be discussed.

Á frica it still has not recovered of the caused ravages for it treats about slaves and the later age of colonization. To another side of the Atlantic Ocean, in Europe and everywhere, the progeny of African keeps on facing every day the deep-rooted prejudices that keep them plunged in the poverty of a disproportionate way.

Although the slavery has been abolished officially, the racism keeps on contaminating our world, as the contemporary forms of slavery like the servitude, the forced prostitution, the children's use in the war and the international traffic of drugs.

It is essential that we lift our voice to be opposed without ambages to these abuses. The Universal Declaration of Human rights affirms that “all the human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”. The non-observance of this fundamental beginning is a direct cause of the inhumanity of the slavery and the horror of the genocide.

This year, the topic of this International Day is to make hear. It is a call to which “We Break the silence, the drums resound”. From the dawns of the humanity in Africa, the drums have marked the pulse of our history and keep on helping us to celebrate our common humanity. Today I urge all the persons in the whole world to make resound the drums to proclaim that blacks or white persons, men or women, we are the same people. When the musicians touch, some pay attention to others on having interpreted the parts that correspond to them. We must continue his example. We can only achieve the harmony if we respect some ours others, celebrate our diversity and work together to reach our common targets.

The history of the end of treats about slaves deserves to be counted in the United Nations. In fact, the defense of the human rights occupies a central place in the mission of this Organization in the world. Our Letter proclaims the rights equality. The Universal Declaration of Human rights declares that “nobody will be submitted either to slavery or to servitude”.

(*) General Secretary of the United Nations Organization (UNO)
