Fenty faces economic crisis and walks towards the reelection

Three days later that the mayor of Washington, DC, Adrian Fenty, should submit the necessary papers before the Office of Financing of Campaign to open his committee for the reelection “Fenty 2010”, the burgomaster announced a series of measurements to face the existing deficit in the budget for 2009.
“ There came the moment to compromise the residents of the District of Columbia with the future of the city and the leadership that represents them to go forward. “We are proud of the progresses realized in the last 22 months from the beginning of the critical reform of the public schools of the District up to bringing more urban development projects to our big local communities. We cannot rest on the progress but we must continue further away and keep on working with all the residents to do of the District a city of world class”, expressed Adrian Fenty.
His aspirations to the reelection appear in difficult times not only for the city but also for the country, because it crosses the worst financial crisis of last 50 years. It is believed that the deficit in the budget of Washington, DC, amounts to 131 million dollars therefore mayor Fenty one started working and it considered, inside his plan, to cut the expenses away in 59.6 million dollars and to make use of 71.4 million dollars originated from the accounts type O, which contain funds generated by the business licenses, permissions, between other income.
The reduction is concentrated on the funds clipping to the government agencies being the most affected the Metropolitan Police of DC and the Department of Health, continued by the agency of Service for the Children and the Families, the Department of Mental health, the Firemen's Service and Medical Emergencies and the Department of Correctional.
In accordance with mayor Adrian Fenty “this administration must take measures to assure that the District should be fiscally healthy. This is simply the first step to level the financial deficit of the city”.
Fenty also recommended the city to save 31 million dollars eliminating the personnel hiring for positions at present vacant and 10 million dollars freezing an investment in the fund for benefits of retirement of the personnel of the city.
The Fenty proposals have been criticized by some councilmen, who defend the hiring again personal that is necessary, as in the Service for the Children and the Families.
For the tax year 2010, the administration looks for a reduction of expenses of 5.5 per cent across all the agencies.
The education does not touch
On the other hand, Fenty has repeated that will not touch themselves the funds for the reform of the public schools of the District (DCPS, for his initials in English) because as he was announcing from a beginning, to improve the educational system in the District is one of his priorities.
He even announced to himself a rescheduling of the budget of the public schools with the intention of increasing and of deriving funds that go straight to the schools in need.
This week the mayor and the chancellor of education, Michelle Rhee, announced that the administration had identified funds of the central office of DCPS to be distributed straight between the schools that face problems of budget and to create better programs to guarantee a suitable academic level of the students.

A group of workpeople and Latin leaders of the area metEl Department of Police officer of Transit of METER (MTPD, for his initials in English) threw a new program of safety that consists of the review at random of the purses and portfolios of the passengers with the intention of detecting explosive gadgetry, dangerous substances and of preparing terrorist attacks.
The examination program they will be realized in any moment and without previous notice for which they will install review places to themselves at the metro stations or whereabouts of buses in the region.
As announced the authorities the passengers who should refuse to the review of his belongings they will not be allowed to tackle the train or the bus and they will be able to leave freely the station.
“ The Program of safety Examination helps to prepare terrorist attacks and increases the safety in the METER system. The examinations will be able to be realized in any moment and the persons will be chosen in a random way”, pointed out the chief of the police of METER, Michael Taborn.
For his part, the general manager of METER, John Catoe, clarified that the measurement does not answer to a threat, but that yes there are conscious that must be prepared to face an emergency situation.
During the announcement, also they highlighted that the city is after a few days of the elections and at least two months for a new presidential opening therefore they must be attentive to guarantee the safety to the passengers.
Between other measurements they informed that the passengers must not be surprised after any more uniformed police officers see covering the train stations and even some taking additional weapon or accompanied by dogs explosives detectors.
How does it work
From October 27, the passengers can read cartels in the routes of access to the trains and buses where it is informed about the new measurement. Although the program is focused in detecting dangerous or explosive materials, the police will seize illegal substances as drugs and will express a sanction to the owner.
