While the parents receive classes of English, computing or GED his children are well elegant and receive the assistance that they need. |
Thanks to the commitment of the private enterprise, the Familiar Center Foremost in the county of Montgomery is of premiere and offers a renewed and innovative space where the children will be able to receive the services necessary for an ideal development, while his parents prepare themselves to face the life in the United States.
The Familiar Center Foremost opened his doors in 1997 like part of the program Friend of the Family of the state of Maryland, with the intention of offering educational programs for parents and of attending to vulnerable children so that they could interfere better inside his communities and develop educational capacities in the learning process of his children.
“ At present we serve for less 100 families mostly of Hispanic origin. Not only we offer classes for the parents but also we worry about assisting his needs. Our educational services go of the hand with the services socials”, it pointed out Washington Hispanic, Yolanda Pérez, coordinating committee of services of the center.
But, this year the Christmas holiday had an additional gift on having inaugurated an ambience completely renewed and adapted for the physical and educational development of the children.
This was possible thanks to an initiative of the company Discovery Communications, the Foundation Bright Horizons and the Association of Mental health. The construction services were donated by the company Clark Construction and the design donated the corporation Gensler.
The room conditioned with toys and proper decorations for the age of the children offers a suitable space where the children will be able to play, explore and learn while his parents train in the upbringing of his children or receive classes of English, GED or computing.
“ Our classes for parents are very important because they learn how to raise his children and share experiences with other parents. Also also we offer them classes so that they excel themselves. For example we offer the GED course for adults who for any reason did not finish the school being the classes of English those that have major demand”, tells Yolanda Pérez.
The center was created to advise the families in his adaptation process inside his communities. The social worker meets the family father and they analyze together his situation educational goals are established, but at the same time to identify his needs.
“ If they need to extract his passport we advise them, if they need clothes or food recount them to other community organizations. We are like a support and a place where the neediest families can find help”, pointed out Yolanda Pérez.
