Leaders and activists presented in writing before the team of transition of Obama recommendations for a just and integral migratory reform and asked for a high place to the raids and the deportations |
Coalitions representatives pro immigrant of different regions of the country met this week members of the team of transition of Barack Obama to share the worries and the priorities of the immigrant community that is in expectation of an integral, not punitive migratory reform and sustentable.
To the meeting, which was realized in private in the offices of the team of transition of Obama, in Washington DC, approximately 15 representatives of coalitions came pro immigrant from different regions of the country, being Ricardo Juárez of Mexicans without Borders and Nitza Seguil, executive director of the International Fund for the Development of the Migrants (FIDMI) and member of the committee of directors of the National Alliance of Latin-American and Caribbean Communities (NALACC), who were in representation of the metropolitan area.
This way, as the activists estimated, “gave the first step” towards a migratory reform in an ambience where the financial worry that crosses the country monopolizes the engagement books at any level.
“ The fact that they have summoned us for this meeting with the team of transition of the elect president in charge of the migration policies is a very good sign because it means that Obama is taking us into consideration in a climate where the economic crisis is the priority and it seemed that nobody wanted to speak about immigration”, he said to Washington Hispanic Ricardo Juárez.
For executive order
During the meeting the activists and representatives of base organizations presented a bundle of information where they ask Barack Obama not only to approve a migratory reform but across executive orders it establishes a high place to the raids and to the deportations, as well as to prevent the starting of the program E-verify and to prohibit effective of the local police to be able to act like immigration agents.
“ The president has the authority to sign these executive orders without need that surrenders to voting in the Congress. Obama will have the aptitude to do it while there are discussed the plans of a migratory reform”, expressed Juárez.
For his part, Nitza Seguil showed that if Obama approves these administrative measurements in his first 100 days of government it would be the first big step to achieve that there is approved a migratory reform that really benefits the undocumented immigrants.
“ The message was clear and to only one voice: we do not want a reform approved lightly. It is better that they take his time so that the reform is inclusive, not punitive and that him of a way to the citizenship to the immigrants”, pointed out Seguil.
“ Also, it is necessary to evaluate the transnational politics and the relations of the United States with our countries because there are the roots of the migratory waves”, it finished Seguil.
