Representatives of community organizations and of diverse religious groups met to go towards the principal building of the Office of Immigration and Customs (I HOISTED, for his initials in English) in Washington DC with a double intention. First of all to give the welcome to the new administration and to the president Barack Obama and second, to remind to him his commitment that it has towards with the immigrant community that accompanied it along his political campaign.
The march realized one day later that Barack Obama was assuming the charge officially and it was provided with the participation of more than 800 persons, who came to ask the new administration for an immediate high place to the raids and the reform of the system of immigration.
Considered a real faith march the declaration was provided with the participation of religious leaders who realized ceremonies and rituals based on African and indigenous traditions with the intention of creating a positive ambience for the establishment of new politics that protect the immigrants.
“ In the last eight years only they have gone out of the measured offices of the ICE harmful to the immigrants and we want that this ends to pass to the development of a just migratory reform”, he said to Washington Hispanic, Mary Moreno of the Center for the Community Change.
“ Across the power of the faith we think about how to create a fresh space for the development of new politics”, added the activist.
Of equal way during the march a high place was demanded to the deportations and the beginning of the conversations to achieve a reform in the immigration system.
“ We understand that the president takes many hanging things as the economic crisis, but we want to remind to him that the first step to improve the economy is improving the immigration system”, expressed the executive director of House of Maryland, Gustavo Torres.

As candidate of the Party of National Conciliation (PCN), Hugo Salinas celebrates his victory in the recent municipal elections. From May 1 it assumes the Intipucá mayoralty.

Thanks to a change of strategy of campaign, the Salvadoran activist Hugo Salinas, of long trajectory in Washington DC, gained the municipal elections in the Salvadoran city of Intipucá, giving him the luxury of conquering for wide margin to the candidates of two big parties, the oficialista SAND and the opponent FMLN.
Salinas remembered that three years behind it was defeated in similar elections. “But this time I devoted myself with major force to conquer the votes in the nearby populations, hamlets and cantons, in a focused campaign of door in door, and that gave us this result”, affirmed Salinas, in interview to Washington Hispanic.
Also, he visited constantly the schools and the communal centers, and also he organized the management holidays in the cantons and hamlets. “Although more that not at all I devoted myself to create confidence between the young people, and there seemed excellent to them our initiative to construct them a municipal gymnasium in Intipucá, with the contribution of a quota bajísima per month”, it showed. Also one compromised “to realize six festivals in the beaches of Intipucá, which are beautiful”.
One year ago, Salinas took the decision to change to his native ground and to devote itself directly to his candidacy, for the Party of National Conciliation (PCN), one of the most ancient parties of the country. “And I could face successfully to the divided monsters, as they are those of the FMLN and SAND”, he said filled with enthusiasm.
On this matter, it appeared in accordance with the results of the elections, where the FMLN conquered more municipal mayoralties and deputies' positions, while SAND snatched from the left the of the capital mayoralty of San Salvador.
“ I see that the whole country is represented of different colors, and I like that, because now the people are voting for the persons and not for the political parties, as it happened with me”, he told.
Ambassadors town councilors
Salinas will take possession of the mayoralty of Intipucá on May 1, “but I am planning to travel to the United States before this ceremony, because I try to look about 14 person to grant to them the title of municipal ambassadors, for the purpose of which they help me in every canton, in every hamlet of Intipucá”.
He said that his idea consists in that the municipal ambassador is employed together with the mayoralty of Intipucá and the Salvadoran community at the exterior. “We have to be constants and I want to look for a communion with the residents in the United States” to help his people.
The priorities
The elect mayor revealed that his sleep is to do of Intipucá the first county or municipality that is provided with 100 per cent of drinking water. “This is one of my priorities, and I will look for the international help thinking that the arks of the mayoralty now are empty, with many debts”, he said.
Also it is provided with plans to improve the education and the preventive health. Salinas remembered that he was part of the Clinic of the People, in the area Northwest of the Clinic of the People.
“ I have a lot of experience in arming health fairs, and now like mayor I will do everything necessary to encourage the private enterprises so that they support us in the preventive, dental health and reproductive health, so that we advance very much in this aspect”, it added.
