The Museum Madame Tussauds in Washington DC decorated the reply of the egg-shaped lounge of the White House to celebrate the birthday number 48 of the president Barack Obama. The exhibition was opened to the public on Tuesday, the 4th of August, day of the birthday of the president Obama and the visitors could be participants of the presidential celebration for the memory. In the photo Shameka L. Lloyd, administratrix of marketing and sales of the museum gives the final touches to the exhibition that also was provided with the presence of George W. Bush and the couple Clinton, who joined the celebration.

Teachers teach children in Guatemala

Students of five schools in the city of Ipalco in Guatemala benefited with intensive classes of English for three weeks thanks to an educational and cultural exchange program. At the same time the teachers, who took part voluntarily received classes of Spanish and had the opportunity to know the tourist wealths of the Central American country.
This is the first big initiative as part of the association City You join between the city of Riverdale and the city of Ipalco in Guatemala.
Due to the success of the program the mayor of Riverdale, Vernon Archer met the taking part teachers to congratulate them and at the same time to commit itself with the achievement of mayors exchanges to reinforce the bonds of friendship between both cities.
“ I am much thrilled on having seen that so productive this relation has been between our peoples and I hope that this friendship forged during this summer should develop in the future years”, expressed the mayor of Riverdale Park.
The county of Prince George's summoned the teachers of English like the second language (ESL, for his initials in English), who registered voluntarily to take part. They traveled to Guatemala from July 2 until July 26 and they were received in the teachers' houses and educational authorities of the region.

Workpeople denounce abuses and intimidation

Tens workpeople of the hotel Sheraton de Crystal City went to denounce labor abuses as it recharges of work, there is missing of necessary implements, limited access to the medical and enclosed insurance intimidation and arbitrary dismissals against personnel who have demonstrated his participation in the process of unionization.
Last May Ferdi Lazo, who was employed like engineer at maintenance led a delegation that came up to the administration of the hotel to express his worry for the absence of materials and on the recent dismissals. After the meeting, Ferdi was interrogated by one of the managers on his relation with the trade union and five days later it was dismissed for coming, only in an occasion, it delayed to the work.
Now without employment, this family father of two children became present during the declaration to join his partners and to denounce abuses and disrespect on the part of his employers.
“ I am protesting, first, against the discrimination, and second, for the disrespect. The chiefs want that we resign, but we will continue in the struggle until we should obtain justice”, expressed Ferdi Lazo.
“, On having seen this big number of fighters, he makes me feel proud and stronger to continue until we should achieve the respect that we deserve”, he added Bond.
The hotel Sheraton de Crystal City is produced and partially a property of HEI Hotels and Resorts, one of the owners of hotels of major growth in the United States. But, according to the personnel for some months the managers took a series of measurements to cut his expenses away harming the workpeople. “We have neither the sufficient time, nor the necessary materials to do our work. We are always running because we have been increased by the number of rooms that we must clean. Many partners have the damaged back and do not receive any treatment”, tells Virginia Portillo, who works for 16 years like 'housekeeper', most affected with it recharges one of the areas with work.
They think about how to be unionized
In the frame of the discussions in the Congress on the law approval that protects the workpeople who think about how to be part of a trade union known as “Employee Free Choice Act”, this group of personnel of the hotel Sheraton with the Unite-Here support they claim a just and democratic process on having decided to be represented by an union or trade union.
According to Unite-Here leaders, the trade union that represents the workpeople of hotels, casinos, restaurants, laundries and the manufacturing industry, since the workpeople initiated this process last February, the administration of the hotel took rigorous measures as a way of intimidating the personnel so that they desist from integrating an union.
As result of this campaign promoted by Unite-Here thousands are the workpeople who have managed to be represented by a trade union.

In February of this year a woman tackled a plane in Washington DC and while he was waiting for the moment of the game began nursing his baby. For his surprise, personnel of the airline asked him to go out of the plane and lost the flight.
For the same reason, in last December, the bartenders of a restaurant of the central area of DC said to another woman than it should leave the place, what gave place to the beginning of a legal action.
“ We defended this person until this case closed across an arbitration”, there revealed Gustavo Velásquez, the director of the Office of Human rights of the District of Columbia (DC).
Velásquez announced Washington Hispanic that from Friday, the 31st of July began governing the regulation that protects the mothers who “give the breast” to his babies by means of rules against the discrimination.
From now on, the offices and the centers of work, between them the restaurants and the public places must be very careful in the dealing to the mothers who nurse his small children. These women for his part, must be careful of be covering appropriately, in case that the action realizes in a place with a lot of public.
“ But the most important thing is that the new regulation needs to the companies or business so that they provide a place clean and suitable where the mothers could give maternal milk to his babies”, told Velásquez, who clarified that there will have to be ambiences different from the public baths.
He said that this facility must be offered in all kinds of work, “be already for the secretary of an office of government or the waitress of a restaurant that they are in this need”.
The above mentioned space can be used even by the clients of shops, restaurants or another type of business establishments, when they want to nurse his babies.

Day of progress 2009
