In moments in which the safety of the system of trains METER is highly questioned like result of the happened tragedy last June, a worker suffered a fatal accident while it was redeeming his functions, on Sunday, the 9th of August.
The accident took place on the rails of the orange line close to the Vienna metro station about 9:50 p.m. The man identified like 63-year-old Michael Nash and resident of Silver Spring was working for METER for 25 years in the field of rails maintenance.
On Sunday night Nash was along with a team of more than 10 workers realizing works of maintenance of rails. While a heavy machine was interspersing gravel, Nash was in charge of cleaning the circuits when it was impressed by the machine.
From October, 2005 until November, 2006, four METER employees died on having been squashed by trains in three diverse incidents. There have not been defined yet the causes of the accident that is under investigation, but according to the manager of METER, John Catoe, the machinery was operating well.
As result of the fatlidad, METER suspended the maintenance works and arranged immediately a safety training for his workpeople of campo.De equal way METER will increase the examinations in the centers of work across the system.
Regrettably on Wednesday, the 12th of August close to the midday the orange line of the METER with direction to the station of New Carrolton impressed fatally a man, who of an intentional way was on the rails of the train. The tragedy provoked debts in the orange line of the train until the evening.

For wide majority the city of Baltimore approved a resolution in support to the migratory reform across which the members of the council and the mayoress Sheila Dixon ask the president Barack Obama and the Congress to approve an integral reform to the system of immigration of the United States.
Of equal way across the resolution, the authorities of Baltimore and members of community organizations as House of Maryland recognized the contributions of the immigrants and the need to offer a legal status to the million workpeople who with his effort make walk this country.
“ Like city we support our increasing immigrant community because we think that the current immigration system is confused, expensive and difficult. We believe that the administration Obama is going to achieve the change”, pointed out Jessica Contreras, Hispanic spokeswoman of the mayoralty of Baltimore.
This way the city of Baltimore turns into the first local jurisdiction in the state of Maryland in leading the efforts to press to the Congress and to the White House with the target that a migratory reform is approved.
The resolution was presented by the councilman Rochelle “Rikki“ Spector and it sponsored by the president of the council and 10 of 13 members.
This announcement conincide with the declarations of the president Obama realized during the meeting with the presidents of Mexico and Canada where it expressed that he waits presents a law project to itself for end of year with the target to initiate the debate and to achieve his approval for 2010.
“ Like a city with a rich past based on the immigrants, we admit that our city and our country will be stronger if we can attend to the new immigrants so that they resemble inside our communities. There is not he doubts that the system of immigration of this country is broken and that the local governments, the municipalities, are paying a high price as result of the absence of action of Washington”, said the councilman Spector.
Other of the intentions of this initiative is that it takes as an example in other cities and jurisdictions to express to the legislators the urgent need for the reform of immigration.
In the last years the community of Baltimore has suffered the harassment of the raids and situations of development in the centers of work that have sowed in the immigrant community fear and suspicion towards the authorities.
This resolution sends a clear message to the residents of Baltimore and to the authorities on the urgent need for the change.
