As part of the program of summer employment for young people in Washington DC, a group of participants in collaboration with local artists finished a wall coloring in the local community Edgewood, to the North-East of the city. With this labor experience the talented young people learned on the opportunities that they have in the world of the arts. In the photo Juan Pineda of Guatemalan origin, one of the local artists who collaborated in the art project explains the making of the enormous mural.

This weekend and therefore summer subtraction the departments of police officer of the metropolitan area enlist to reinforce the checkpoints in the highways to detect well-known intoxicated drivers like “check points”. In this sense the police of the county of Arlington will realize on Friday, the 28th of August a drivers control known like "checkpoint" to detect persons who handle under the effects of the alcohol. The so called operation “to Handle on the limit of alcohol, low arrest” will be realized in collaboration with the office of the sheriff of the county of Arlington and the state police of Virginia.
In the points pre certain the police officer officials will detain all the cars and will ask to see the driver's license and if they have the suspicion that the person is handling the intoxicated vehicle or under the drugs effects the vehicle will go to the safety area of the highway for observation and it might realize the poisoning test.

With infrastructure renewed especially in DC, but also with deficit in the budgets that have forced to cut away personnel and educational programs, the public schools of the metropolitan area open the doors for the new school year 2009-2010.
The summer ends and again students and family parents have to adapt themselves to the routine. To get up earlier, to enlist the children and to embark them to a new school day that for many is marked by big differences.
On the one hand a group of schools is in the District of Columbia that gave the welcome to his pupils with buildings completely renewed where the corroded painting, the smell of moisture and the annoying sound of the air conditioning, if it had it operative, are part of the past. This owes to the millionairess investment of the mayor of the city Adrian Fenty in his emulation for improving the infrastructure and the educational quality in the DC schools.
During the summer about 100 million dollars were invested in the renewal of five schools, between which the elementary school H.D is. Cooke located in the field of Mount Pleasant where a high number of Latin families resides. At the same time it continues an arduous work for renewing and modernizing more schools and even two weeks ago there began the demolition of the school Bruce-Monroe along the avenue Georgia, area where according to the city he will construct the modern building that will turn into the new Bruce-Monroe hearth.
But, not everything has been a rose color in DC because like result of the economic crisis that affects the country also they must have cut expenses, to reduce programs and to increase taxes to face the deficit in the budget.
The same has happened in almost all the counties where the elimination of programs, the consolidation of schools, the freezing of teachers' wages and the dismissal of personnel inside the schools will allow to feel throughout the school year.

The county of Prince George's has consolidated several schools and cancelled elective programs. Also the schools and the family parents dismissed 120 linkage or coordinators between, many of them of Hispanic speech that were serving as intermediaries for the limited level of English of the family parents. Even in Prince George's the first day of classes registered with problems in the system computarizado stopping thousands of students without his schedules, not the possibility registering to his courses.
In case of the county of Montgomery, the classes start on Monday, the 31st and although there have not been big clippings in the budget the directors of the schools must have taken you would be measured to cover his needs. While the counties of Prince William and Loundoun check the new agreement to renew the program 287 (g), the American Union of Civil Freedoms (ACLU, for his initials in English) along with more than 500 national and local organizations they sent a letter to the president Barack Obama to ask him to cancel the agreement, which allows certain police officer departments to redeem proper activities of the Office of Immigration and Customs (I HOISTED, for his initials in English).
The fundamental ACLU reason is that the program has collaborated to serious abuses of the civil rights, persecusiones of racial order and worries for the public safety of the communities.
During the weekend, local organizations will realize wakefulness, marches and other activities in the whole country to protest for the expansion of the program 287 (g) and to demand from the government that it should annul the initiative that grants powers to the police to check the legal status of a person. The counties of Prince William and Loundoun have until beginning of October to sign a new agreement with the Department of Internal Safety that will allow them to continue with the so called program 287 (g) or otherwise it will be cancelled in both jurisdictions.
The new agreement memorandum between the Office of Immigration and Customs (I HOISTED, for his initials in English) and the departments of local police officer under the program 287 (g) that grants certain faculties to the effective ones of the order to act like immigration agents thinks about how to regulate in a uniform way the implementation of the program.
Of equal way the new agreement establishes that the priority specially is to identify and to remove criminal foreigners. And, that before the worry that a person might be stopped by a minor affront or simply to "seem" or to consider it to be suspicious would be sufficient to initiate the deportation procedures, the agreement tells that the police have the obligation to investigate and to check all the criminal charges that originally provoked the detention of a person.
The new agreement also establishes a handlebar with the important points so that the ICE could supervise operating of the local police under the program 287 (g). Since the announcement of the new agreement was done there were sent the agencies that are part, but up to the date the authorities of Prince William and Loundoun point out that they are checking the new agreement before signing it.
“ The program 287 (g) is an essential component for the Department of Internal Safety in his strategy for looking over a comprehensive immigration. The new agreement strengthens the supervision on the program and to we allow to use of better way the resources and the capacities of our local agencies of police officer across the country”, pointed out the secretary assistant of the ICE, John Morton.
Also the agreement needs annual meetings between the departments of local police officer and the officials of the ICE to stay updated and informed.
