The scream of the freedom

199 years ago, September 16, 1810, Miguel Hidalgo and Rib, a priest of the people of Pains, in the current state of Guanajuato (Mexico), lifted the flag of the rebellion demanding the end of the bad government imposed by the king of Spain, in what the history knows like “The Scream of Pains). Although initially it was successful, the Nobleman's rebellion did not survive a lot of time. The religious one was captured by the forces realistic and he executed in Chihuahua in 1811. Nevertheless, his action was the germ that catapulted with major intensity the desires of freedom and independence of the Mexican nation, which was recognized by the last viceroy of the New Spain ten years later, in July, 1821.

The “Scream of Pains” also woke up the freedom avidity in the adjacent peoples and that were part of the colonies of the General Captaincy of the Virreinato of Guatemala, formed in that one then for the provinces of Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, the Government of Costa Rica and the Commissariats of Chiapas and El Salvador.

After there came the news about which the Commissariat of Chiapas had been annexed to Mexico, on September 14, 1821, the above mentioned provinces decided to declare themselves independent with all the territories that were inside his jurisdiction. These territories summoned to a Central American Congress, which decided the creation of the federation of the Close Provinces of Center America, which was integrated by Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Costa Rica; his capital was the city of Guatemala.

The Close Provinces that were integrating the Federation, for different interests of each of them, proclaimed his autonomy with intentions of organizing its own government. Nicaragua did it in April, 1838; Costa Rica, in November, 1838; Honduras; in November, 1838; Guatemala, in April, 1839, and El Salvador, in January, 1841.

At present, when the above mentioned nations come closer to the bicentenary of his independence, which fulfills next year, we see how each of them goes in search of his progress and its own destination.

We believe that called that the priest Hidalgo initiated since almost two centuries ago it made to toll the principal bell of the church of Pains, it meant the most ardent invocation to the villages so that they promise to fight to keep independent, but, of course, at large and in democracy, working for the well-being of his current and future generations.
