As in the rest of the nation, the authorities and the citizenship of the whole metropolitan area of Washington, DC, have joined the celebrations for the “Month of the Hispanic Heredity”, whose central date is the “Day of Columbus” (Columbus Day, in English), more known in Latin America like “Day of the Race” o “America opening day“ and that is celebrated this Monday, the 13th.
Both the mayor of the capital of the country, Adrian Fenty, and the governors of the surrounding states of Maryland and Virginia, Martin O'Malley and Tim Kaine, respectively, have joined the counties of the area with decrees that oficializan this festivity.
Doing a little of history, the celebration of this date commemorates the ground sighting for the sailor Rodrigo de Triana, in 1492; ground that with the step of the years would be called “America“. The expedition headed by Cristóbal Columbus, had 2 months sailing when the above mentioned event registered.”
