In the middle of the tumultuous ceremonies for the change of presidential control in the United States, the news remained relegated about the municipal and legislative elections that took place last Sunday, the 18th in El Salvador, country where the campaign has polarized between two big parties, SAND – today in the power - and the FMLN, which turns out to be favorite in the surveys.
Nevertheless, the news about the victory of Hugo Salinas for the Salvadoran mayoralty of Intipucá, of the Department of The Union, re-rocked not only to the above mentioned Central American nation but to the community of this origin in the metropolitan area of Washington DC.
First, because his electoral victory broke with the due molds. Salinas, representing a different party, conquered the candidates of the traditional political organizations, thanks to an assiduous campaign “of door in door” in cantons and hamlets where it brought his ideas over to the population intipuquense. By the way, let's not forget that from Intipucá located in the East of El Salvador, the first emigrants set off decades ago towards the United States and other nations, for causes of the civil war.

One of them was Salinas, who during long years developed in Washington DC a very active work, first like diffuser of the art and the folklore of his country, and then like organizer and taking part in different Latin festivals, where it created the allegorical chariots representing the popular culture. As artist took his creations up to the lounges of exhibition of the OEA. And then, it was voluntary and also a promoter in the struggle against the AIDS from the Clinic of the People.
Now Salinas wants to overturn his vast experience in Intipucá, city whom it returned “to remain” for one year. Washington Hispanic does votes so that his projects and initiatives in favor of his people become true. Congratulations and a lot of successes, mister mayor Hugo Salinas!
