The legacy of César Chávez

Although we could be too optimism, the conquests that slowly are making way for themselves in the difficult way of the current government make us think about a promissory future for the community, especially for the million undocumented immigrants who still remain in the shades.

That's why we remember with all pride the scream of battle of the activist César Chávez: "Yes one can!”, motto that not long ago was taken the electoral campaign of the democratic candidate of that time and today president of the United States, Barack Obama.

César Chávez, whose figure was evoked on Tuesday, the 31st after 82 fulfilled anniversary of his birth, is considered to be “the champion of the workers and of the civil rights”. His principal goal was that the workpeople were enjoying basic rights, and for it it assumed the defense of his civil rights and of the improvement of his education.

“ We honor the life and the work of this big American, who placed the needs of the people in front of the powerful interests”, said this week senator Robert Menéndez, who introduced on the same Tuesday, the 31st a resolution to give an official recognition in the Senate to César Chávez. “The fue the only voice of many workers who lacked a platform to be listened”, added senator John Ensign.
.

Let's remember that this big activist was born in Yuma, Arizona, on March 31, 1927. With the course of the years it turned into the defender of the agricultural workers in the fields of California. From there it took part in a heap of actions of struggle and also pacific in the struggle for the social justice.

Washington Hispanic thinks that the legacy of César Chávez remains current. And that today, more that never, this motto of: “Yes one can!” it must resound with all his force, up to obtaining a more just place for the social and economic justice in our communities and in our centers of work.
Asegurémonos of keeping on supporting the civil rights of the workpeople, who have gained it for their own effort throughout all these years. Yes one can!
