There live through a painful reality many people of our community, who already suffers the consequences of the engagement agreement to which it went over between the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Legislative Assembly of Maryland, by which the driver's licenses delivery was eliminated to the undocumented immigrants. Nevertheless, we consider to be necessary to do a brief analysis of what really generated this situation.

There is not doubt that the fundamental weapon that the antiimmigrant sectors used, up to obtaining the elimination of this benefit for the undocumented persons, was the avalanche of cases of fraud that registered on behalf of the petitioners. The desperation for obtaining a driver's license led many of them to cheating with directions and false documents. In the debate there were revealed facts that impressed the legislators, like the one that 80 petitioners had registered in only one home direction of Baltimore.

Persons and unscrupulous companies offered “the gold and the Moor”, in advertizing notices which texts were calling undocumented persons of the area and of other states to look for licenses “without problems and completely guaranteed”, in Maryland, the state that turned, as one alleged in the Legislative Assembly, into “a magnet of the fraud”.

That this serves of example and of lesson. And that inclusive with the new legislation, which opens a window to renew the licenses of those that already possess them until the year 2015, does not try to deceive himself to the system, because if they do it not only they will be incurring a crime but also there will run the risk that it is annulled or modifies this disposition, what will harm many other immigrants.

We believe that it is necessary to remain alert against the attitudes of the antiimmigrant groups, but at the same time it is necessary to expire perfectly with the laws, we like or not we like.
