The citizenship of Virginia decided in the urns, last Tuesday, the 3rd, the election of the republican Bob McDonnell like his new Governor, after a well studied strategy that consisted of removing basically the candidate of ultraconservative positions to be located in the center of the political bogey.
That way it differed from his opponent, the democratic candidate Creigh Deeds, whose candidacy we endorse from this publishing column in our past edition. We consider in this opportunity, and keep on believing it, that Deeds had the best attributes and precedents. It is enough to mention his initiatives in the state Senate, between them a legislation that managed to create 80.000 work places, as well as his support to Dream Act at level of the state, his support decided to an integral migratory reform and his proposal so that the contracts come to the businessmen and Hispanic businessmen.
The Democratic Party will have to do a deep self-criticism of his campaign, after going out defeated in Virginia, where the current president Barack Obama "swept" in the general elections of exactly one year ago. The democratic pictures were employed very much at last weeks, but apparently it was not sufficient. There were missing the propulsion and the enthusiasm of the people, especially in the bosom of the Hispanic community, where the percentage of voters was minimal. Also there joined the feeling of unease and the loss of hopes, with a government that takes too much crystallize his campaign promises, between them the awaited integral migratory reform.

We turn round to the page and offer our welcome to the new governor. It is just to recognize his victory and the work of organization realized by the Republican Party, which this time “head raised” both in Virginia and in New Jersey, where they re-captured the important governments and other important government positions.
The important thing now is to observe the march of the government of McDonnell. The community and the mass media must support the vigilant look, so that the immigrant families could keep on living and being employed at peace and harmony.
Now when McDonnell has chosen a centrist platform, we hope that there should keep on moving away from the sector ultra-conservative, whose extreme proposals hurt him so much to his party in previous opportunities.
As governor, McDonnell will be from now on at the head of the state of Virginia. The question of our community is if the new authority will continue with his relatively moderate position or if he will pay attention to intolerant positions, which even express themselves with prejudice of the persons who speak foreign languages in the work.
The time will give his final verdict. That's why, we must be prepared for the elections of half a term of next year, which really will be decisive for the future of our community and of the country in general.
