Transplants save lives

The beautiful case of conjugal love led by a couple of Bolivian husbands who reside for two decades in the metropolitan area and that we publish in this edition will upset of course many families of our community. Also, it offers an example to the present and future generations, on the need to inculcate values as the detachment and the friendship risen up to his maximum grade.
The sublime gesture of David Larrea, who donated his kidney so that the doctors were implanting it to his sick wife, must be dignified, since there ended with a long "waiting-list" to find an appropriate donor, in which it was she who was for two years, without turned out until now in that his husband decided to take the examination without she knowing it.
We think that this is the real fund topic in this history. Even more if we know that in the nation approximately 100.000 persons a year need an organ transplantation, of which only 23.000 obtain it. The most painful thing is that about 6.000 persons die every year in the country before receiving an organ.
The statistics show that in New York the patients must wait nine years in average to receive a kidney. In the hospitals of the metropolitan area of Washington DC the waiting time is similar. All this reveals a drama major than many people imagine.

In the big metropolis of New York, for example, many poor persons are ready to sell his kidney for thousands of dollars. Not long ago the press spread the case of a well-known businessman of Brooklyn, arrested when it was trying to coordinate a dealing to buy this organ for $ 160.000.
Till now solutions are not to this type of problems. On this matter, Peter Singer, renowned teacher of bioethics in the University of Princeton argues that “we must design politics for the real world, not for the ideal one”. And then he wonders: "Might a kidneys market be regulated legalized to guarantee that the sellers are completely informed about what they are going to do, including the risks to his health? Would the kidneys demand be covered with it? Would an acceptable result be obtained for the seller?”.
The answers are not so easy and specialists as Singer realizes systematical experiences studies in other countries, hoping to apply them successfully to our reality.
For all these precedents, the sublime gesture on that today we comment and that involves a Hispanic family, acquires even major value. It is a palpable sample of that the love, the detachment, the good faith and the generosity, there are values that cost much more than the proper money and that of putting them into practice makes really happy and lucky to us.
