This Friday, the 11th there are fulfilled eight years of the ominous and cowardly terrorist attacks that crashed on the metropolitan areas of New York and Washington DC in the year 2001. It was the severest blow of the international terrorism – in this case represented by the group Al Qaeda - against the United States and the free world. Nearly 3.000 persons died in the destroyed Twin Towers of World Trade Center, in New York, and in the building – that earlier seemed completely unassailable - of the Pentagon, in Virginia. Hundreds of persons turned out to be hurt in this criminal fact and many families stayed in the orphanage.
The nation one has come recovering quickly after the tragedy. Big part of the merit to obtain it rests in the thousands of volunteers who gave his services, in anonymous form, from the first moment in which these offenses were known. Many took clean boots or water to the rescue workpeople, others supplied or gave assistance to the workpeople who were withdrawing the debris. Also they took winter clothes or overcoat to the people who was in local refuges …
These actions inspired the president Barack Obama and the Congress to be debated, to approve and to promulgate the legislation that he declares on September 11, 2009 as National Day of Service and of Memory of 9/11. With this intention there began a presidential campaign – in which also there collaborated the First Lady, Michelle Obama - that urged to the citizenship to “to serve on September 11 and honor the heroes of this dark day”. Also, in a message to the nation, it invoked “the spirit of unit and compassion” through that the United States lived this tragic day, eight years ago.

There were the families of the victims those who had protesting, throughout several years and under the leadership of the organization "MyGoodDeed" (My Big Exploit), which declares itself one day to honor the volunteers. It is necessary to remember that “MyGoodDeed“ was founded in 2002 by two friends, David Paine and Jay S. Winuk; the latter pedió in the terrorist attacks to his brother Glenne, who was a voluntary fireman. “Fortunately we are provided with a wide support on the part of two parties and of the president Obama”, to make this project real, remembers Paine, in the web site of the organization.
Washington Hispanic joins this commemoration, in one day in which not only we will remember the spirit of unit that arose in the whole nation after the terrorist attacks against New York and Washington DC but also the sacrifice that many volunteers as Glenne produced with the only intention of serving to the others.
