An interesting situation could develop with the awaited retreat of senator Ken Salazar, of Colorado, to integrate the office of the elect president Barack Obama. This week Obama announced that he chooses the senator as Secretary of the Interior, the agency that he is in charge, between other things, of watching for the maintenance of the national parks of the country and for matters of the community indigenous to the country. The governor of the state of Colorado now will name the person who will replace it for the rest of his term in the Senate. This person will be democratic – a possible substitution would be the proper brother of Salazar, the representative John Salazar, of Colorado - because the governor is democratic and he would choose to someone of his own party, but here the interesting part of all this comes. The projecting conferee Tom Tancredo, known by his antiimmigrant politics, belongs to the same state and he has said that it would be interested in be postulating for the position. He makes sure that it has the support and the possibility of collecting enough money to defeat the person that the governor chooses, is who is. Then, which were praising the retirement forever of Tancredo and his right-wing politics of the Congress, are warned that it might return, and in a much more important position than it has at present.
Always not. That is what conferee Xavier Becerra of California has said to the team of the elect president Obama. Snapdragon was for consideration for the Representatives' position of Commercial Matters (USTR, for his initials in English), but he has decided to remain in the federal Congress and like assistant of the president of the Lower House, a leadership position in the Congress, vice-president of the Lower House. Snapdragon said that it was very animated when the team of Obama spoke to him on the position, but that after thinking it well he said that he wanted to remain in the Congress following the work that it had, like impelling a legislation of migratory reform and major access to the medical care and education for the Latin community, between other things. Snapdragon also said that he was admitting that this position would bear to travel very much and would not likeed to be removed from his family too many times. Of course also he admitted that it would be quite difficult to work with a president and an administration that about entry they have said that he is not interested in very much the commercial agreements. To leave a quite sure position in the federal Congress to work this way had not been easy at all.
And finally, in this period of holidays and thanks, there a very strong hug and gratitude goes to all the readership for his big support. I have met several of you, dear readers, in the bus, in Home Depot, in the supermarket and other places, and you have always greeted me very warmly and that's why I give to them thank you very much. Happy Christmas and thousand thanks for taking the time every week to read this column.
