The General Secretary of the Organization of the American States will travel this weekend from Washington to Guatemala to realize several meetings on a scandal that it has moved to the country. The Guatemalan president Alvaro Colom is accused of arranging a murder, according to a video left by a lawyer murdered on May 10. In the video, Rodrigo Rosenberg says if dead is found, Colom would be guilty. Thousands of Guatemalans in writing and in the streets they look for the Colom resignation. The first chief has denied the accusation, and has asked national and international organizations to investigate. José Miguel Insulza of the OEA hopes to carry out “a round of interviews”, including with Colom and “to show his worry for the events that they have re-rocked to the Guatemalan public opinion”, according to a bulletin of the OEA, with head office in Washington. The OEA and other international organisms say that they will look for the biggest possible tranparencia to try to solve this crisis for which it crosses Guatemala in these moments. Meanwhile in the American Congress, Latin legislators insist that the migratory reform will be done this year, although the White House is not sure so.

The president of the group of Latin conferees in the Lower House said that the strategy is to keep on working with leaders of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Velázquez affirms that yes there is a commitment to attend to the matter on the part of the congressional leadership, although it has not put itself in the congressional calendar yet. The president Obama, said Velázquez, would announce soon in a public event the process to realize the legislation and then “we (the legislators)” will begin being employed at the legislation”.

Other legislators in a meeting this week of conferees and civic groups indicated that they are formed a national coalition with the intention of approving a migratory reform.

" This meeting has been a part of a work in march of the group of Hispanic legislators, not only with communal leaders, but with Congressmen of both parties", affirmed conferee Luis Gutiérrez of Chicago, who newly finished a tour along several states in search of support for the legislation. "On the base of these conversations we believe that this is the moment to advance forward with the reform".

And good news this week for credit cards users. The Congress approved legislation that prohibits the companies of credit cards to increase arbitrarily the money-market rates of the user, and prohibits to receive also exorbitant tariffs. Also it allows the monthly salaries payment by phone or Internet without additional costs. The legislation is applauded by groups who advocate the consumers, who say these companies they have taken advantage of the people, especially during this economic crisis when a persons' major quantity has been seen forced to use credit cards for his basic expenses.
