Between güiros, cuatros and drums that were resounding the typical music originated from the Island of the Delight, the Association of Pupils and Friends abroad of the University of Puerto Rico (UPRAA) celebrated last Saturday, the 1st of August the activity in the Night Boricua II.
The event was carried out in National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in Arlington, IT GOES and there stood out the musician of the popular Puerto Rican singer Bobby Capó.
Jacqueline Capó, daughter of the deceased composer of “Skin Cinnamon” honored the memory of his father on having sung his best songs. The folkloric group “Seed Boricua” also delighted the public with his tenths and dances.
In addition to the concert, the assistants took part of a silent auction where there were auctioned books, works of art, bottles of rum and Puerto Rican crafts. During the activity, they were gathered about $ 6,000, which will be used like part of the fund of scholarships of the organization without lucre ends, there says Dr. Jacob Lozada, president of the organization.
UPRAA was founded in 2003 with the intention of connecting to expupils of the University of Puerto Rico in the United States, especially those who reside in the field of A.D., Virgina and Maryland. The organization celebrates two big cultural events a year: In the night Boricua and a tournament of golf that will be celebrated on September 18, says Ann Valentín, secretary of the organization.
