The president of General Motors of Brazil announced an investment for 1.000 million dollars in the development of two new models of vehicles which production will allow to generate 1.000 direct work places.
It is a question of the biggest investment of GM Brazil in his 84 years of existence and the first big investment of the company in the world from the explosion of the global crisis last year.
The Colombian Jaime Ardila, GM president for Brazil and the countries of the Mercosur, affirmed that the vehicles will be produced in the plant of Gravataí, in the southern state of Big Rio do Sul, and will be available from 2012.
“ There are two vehicles models, the small one and medium other, which they will be distributed on the internal market of Brazil and the Mercosur”, told Ardila to journalists after announcing the plans to the president Luiz Inácio Lula it gives Miscellany, in Brasilia.
Also there exists the possibility of distributing the new models in other countries, like South Africa.
During the first 18 months, the work will be in charge of engineers and designers, and from 2011 it will move to the plant of Gravataí, whose production capacity will happen from 230.000 vehicles per year at present to 380.000 in 2012, according to Ardila.
“ The operation will do with 50 per cent of proper resources of GM Brazil and the rest to itself with financial institutions resources”, added the executive.
He added that state Banco de Río Grande do Sul (Banrisul) and Banco Regional of Economic and social development already offered the financing to tackle the work.
The Brazilian minister of Development, Industry and Exterior Commerce, Miguel Jorge, thought that the investment is a sample of confidence in the economy of the South American country.
“ The decision of GM is an evidence of that the investors entrust in the directed politics of the president Lula to fight the financial crisis, which has struck the self-propelled production in the industrialized countries”, it expressed.
Ardila emphasized that GM Brazil never turned out to be affected by the failure that suffered the ultimate parent in the United States, and it always supported a high sales level in Brazil, thank you partly to that the government last year limited the tax on industrialized products.
