Before a new attempt for approving a resolution that orders to the public schools of Frederick's county in the state of Maryland to take into account the undocumented students, the immigrant community and representatives of community organizations went out to the streets to protest against this catalogued initiative of unjust and discriminatory.
“ We cannot allow to segregate our children. They have right to education and must not be used like part of a political platform”, it expressed to Washington Hispanic, Héctor Pop, spokesman of House of Maryland.
Thompson Jr answers this reaction to a recent effort of the commissioner John “Lennie“ to introduce his proposal inside the legislative bundle that analyzes the county to be presented before the General Assembly of Maryland.
Thompson's proposal raises that the federal government pays for the education of the undocumented children for which one would need to know how many students cross for this situation. From the first moment, the School Meeting of Frederick expressed his round rejection to the measurement and pointed out that they are ruled by what establishes the federal law and allude to the case of the Supreme Court Plyer vs. Doe which regulated in 1982 that the public schools must educate all the children without considering his migratory status in the United States.
In April of this year, Thompson presented his proposal, but the commissioners of the county pushed it back. As will inform a local way, after the denial, also commissioned Charles A. Jenkins and the sheriff Chuck Jenkins sent letters to eight members of the delegation of Frederick's county entrusted to include the initiative in the legislative bundle, but they did not obtain answer.
“ The approval of this initiative is a discriminatory act. I came to this area to live in peace along with my family without imagining that in the school they would ask my son if it is legal or illegal”, expressed a family father.
“ This initiative is completely illegal. We want to send a message to the commissioners so that they stop discussing local ordinances in the migratory topic because this is a task of the federal government”, expressed the spokesman of House of Maryland.
The march was realized on Tuesday, the 21st of October in the location of Winchester Hall while the commissioners were discussing the legislative bundle. The protest was organized by the Coalition for Frederick's Justice, House of Maryland, religious groups and the NAACP.
There were not missing the antiimmigrant groups as Save Maryland that came up to the place of the concentration to express his points of view, which is based on the fact that they pay taxes and that the county does not have why to pay for the education of undocumented children.
