The Hispanic representatives before the Congress promised to fight for the approval of an integral migratory reform in the present term, and of reminding him to the next president Barack Obama “who must expire” with his promise to work “for the improvement of the living conditions of our community”.
“ We will reinforce the struggle for just politics of immigration, which keep our joined families and finish the criminalization and deportation” of the undocumented immigrants, Nydia Velásquez supported.
Velázquez, conferee of New York, swore in the president's charge of the Institute of Caucus Hispano of the Congress (CHCI, for his initials in English), on Tuesday, the 6th.
During the ceremony there joined like members of the institute 31 legislators and republican of Latin origin, democratic, which exists in both cameras. In 1976, when the institute was created, there was only five.
The charge Columbus received his Velázquez of hands of the Californian legislator Joe Baca, the previous president, in the head office of the Club. The democratic senator Bob Menéndez took the oath, of New Jersey.
Velázquez added that the work of the Hispanic conferees in the next two years of the corresponding legislative period to 111er. Congress of the United States, “he must be a critic to fix the course of next 20 years”.
Further on, the flaming president of the CHCI pointed out that other national topics, like the health services, safety on the border, education and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, also they affect 45 million Latin Americans who reside in the United States. “They demonstrated that his political and economic potential is infinite”, added Velázquez, of Puerto Rican origin, who is a president of the committee of small-scale enterprises of the House of Representatives.
In this sense, he remembered that last year the purchasing power of the Hispanics in the nation reached 870.000 million dollars.
For his part, Xavier Becerra, conferee of California, said that the promise of Obama to work for the Hispanics “is a fact that it is not necessary to believe that it can do it, but it must expire”.
“ That thing about that does not fulfill a migratory reform, for example, must be a thing of the past”, it pronounced itself.
The Institute of Caucus Hispano of the Congress (Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute) is an organization without intention of lucre that works for the formation of new Hispanic leaders.
This year, the number of Hispanic legislators will suffer two falls with the alienation of senator Ken Salazar and of conferee Hilda Solís, designated by the elect president Obama like Secretary of the Interior and Secretary of Work, respectively.

Two daughters of the elect president Barack Obama entered on Monday, the 5th to his new school of Washington DC, going on ahead from a photographers cloud and accompanied by his mother, the first future lady Michelle Obama.
Since it has happened in the past, it is probable that from now on the mass media will stay removed from both girls once they already photographed Malia, of 10 years, and to Sasha, of 7, with his school way rucksacks to the school Sidwell Friends.
But to protect the privacy of the children of the president of the United States has never been an easy task.
Although the official photographers of the White House do not suppose a problem, the "paparazzi" can be one, as he remained already demonstrated during the Christmas holidays of the Obama in Hawaii, where the future leader of the country was photographed in the beach with the naked torso.
In Sidwell Friends it is not allowed that the children take mobile phones to the school, what will protect the girls Obama, at least during the school schedule.
Representatives of the school did not inform about the accident control measures that they will adopt to protect the daughters of the Obama. Nevertheless, the institution already has experience with the Secret Service in the cadre, which protected ex-students as Chelsea Clinton and To Gore III, the son of ex-vice-president Al Gore.
Bill and Hillary Clinton continued the council of Jacqueline Kennedy and established strict privacy measurements for his daughter Chelsea.
It looks like these norms that they remain: The journalists of the television channel NBC left Sidwell Friends on Monday before the girls Obama they will come.

The state and local authorities of the metropolitan region of Washington did called the population to use “to the possible minimum” the private motor vehicles and recommended to use only the system of massive transport (buses of public service and trains) next Tuesday, the 20th, day in which Barack Obama will assume the presidency of the nation.
The invocation went to the whole citizenship then that the safety Department Interns (DHS), the Agency of the Secret Service and the Agency of emergency Administration (FEMA) they were announcing on Wednesday, the 7th the relation of the bridges and highways that will be closed to the transport transit from 2:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. of the Inaugural Day, between other dispositions.
It is believed that about three million persons will be present at the events originated from all the limits of the nation and of the foreigner.
The drastic measurement was adopted for safety reasons, pointed out Dan Tangherlini, Manager of the City, during a press conference that it offered in the county of Arlington (Virginia) in company of the Secretary of Transports of Maryland, John D. Porcari; of colonel Steven Flaherty, of the State Police of Virginia, and other authorities of the metropolitan region.
They admitted that thousands of resident families in the North of Virginia (counties of Fairfax, Alexandria, Arlington and Prince William, especially), with tall percentage of Hispanics, will be most harmed, since most of them are employed at the District of Columbia (DC) or cross for this city to go to Maryland.
The problem will be very icy since the closing bridge includes the most strategic accesses and there use every day thousands of drivers, like Theodore Roosevelt, the Brief Bridge and the one that crosses always congested Street 14. The bridge Key, which many drivers use commonly across Georgetown, will only be allowed for the massive public transport.
To it 395 adds the closing of the transit towards DC from the Interstate one and of the Interstate one 66.
All the vehicles that go along along the I-95 from Richmond and the cities to the north of Virginia, will be turned away in Springfield towards the I-495.
Interviewed drivers predict with worry that this will provoke “the biggest bottling of the history”.
To enter DC from Maryland will be easier, but the authorities warned that the streets will be super congested because they will be closed the majority of them to allow the access to the stop for the Inaugural Day and to make the adjacent arteries free to the place where president of the United States will swear in Obama as 44.
“ To obtain a parking will be something like to gain him the biggest award of the lottery”, it charted Porcari.
The only bridges that will remain opened for the transit are the Sousa, Whitney Young and that of Benning Road, all of them on the river Anacostia.
“ The urgent thing is that the workpeople and in general all the resident families in the metropolitan area plan from now on how to be mobilized this day from his hearths to his centers of work”, said for his part Tangherlini.
On this matter, it was known that many labor centers – especially hotels and restaurants of the center of DC, which have days of three shifts - are pressing to his personnel to use the system of massive public transport, granting facility and extra time to come to the work. Others have agreed to happen the night from eve in his respective centers, as there announced clerks of the Museum Smithsonian.

In a measurement that has been catalogued like one of the last thrusts of the administration Bush against the immigrants, the general district attorney of the United States, Michael Mukasey decided to finish a constitutional protection that was allowing to those that had lost his cases for an error of the lawyer of immigration to re-open his records. This way they could request a new review of his cases and delay a deportation order.
According to the experts annually thousands of requests appear to re-open cases of immigration and now these persons remain exposed to an imminent deportation.
The measurement enters validity of an automatic way what one hopes that he should be the proper elect president Barack Obama, who annuls it across an executive order.
“ This decision will have a negative impact on many persons who will be deported simply for having no luck of being represented by the incorrect lawyer of immigration. This is a dangerous movement against the American tradition of realizing just processes and on time. To lose his case because his lawyer forgot a deadline or committed an error can never be considered to be a just process”, pointed out in a bulletin the vice Project Manager of rights of the American Union of Civil Freedoms of the Immigrants (ACLU, for his initials in English).

For eight months Glenda Mancía of Honduran origin worked packing sheets during days of more than 12 hours for the industrial laundry Mayflower, located in Beltcamp in the Hardford county, to the north of Baltimore. For this task they were paying seven dollars to him the hour, but they were not recognizing the overtime payment after him on time and I come up as the law stipulates it. To this according to Mancía testimony and of other coworkers add ill-treatment and extreme pressure to increase the production. They even were forcing the personnel to work during the considered days of national holiday like the Day of Thanksgiving under threat than of not coming as of custom to the work they would be dismissed permanently. This was the case of missis Mancía, who after refusing to work during a holiday one was dismissed.
“ I said to them that I was tired of working from Monday until Saturday from seven of the morning to nine or 10 of the night and that I preferred to rest the holiday and they said to me that if it was not going to work they were dismissing me. All the employees complain about that do not want to pay the time and a half to us for worn out overhours and even threaten us to deduct 50 dollars of our check if we do not remain until evening working”, it tells Washington Hispanic, Glenda Mancía.
Before this situation Glenda Mancía he looked for help in House of Maryland for the labor injustices of which it had been an object and immediately they communicated it with lawyer Daniel A. Katz with who along with another 20 workers they decided to demand the company and to demand from them that they should expire with the payment of the overtime.
The industrial laundry operates from 2006 and it is provided with approximately 80 personnel in his majority of Hispanic origin.
The demand appeared officially in January, 2008 and at present they are in the process of the information exchange between both parts.
“ These workpeople whom we represent under what it is called a Collective Action are protected by the federal law Fair Labor Standard approved in 1938 that it establishes that if an employee works more than 40 hours in one week it is necessary to pay to him time and a half of the regular salary. The company Mayflower they deny to owe the money, but we have documents that prove the opposite”, he tells to Washington Hispanic lawyer Daniel Katz of the signature Andalman and Flynn.
For lawyer Daniel A talks each other of a demand of Collective Action. Katz does the called one to all those employees who have worked or are employed for the factory at mention from 2005 from now on so that they join the demand.
“ I have confidence of which we are going to gain the judgment because there exist labor laws that must be respected. This way the workpeople will be able to receive the money that they owe to them for his working time that in some cases can exceed 5.000 dollars”, pointed out the lawyer.
The interested persons in joining this collective demand can communicate with lawyer Daniel A. Katz to (301 563-6685 ó with the lawyer Jane Flanagan of the signature Brown, Goldstein and Levy to (410 962-1030 ".

| In 2009: I want to learn English |
 |
| Yhamel Catacora, director of IMA makes sure that to learn English opens the door for two worlds and access to more opportunities. Photo courteousness IMA |
This is the resolution of hundreds of Latin Americans that they take as a goal for 2009, to dominate the English language. One of the most requested options is the Academy IMA that operates for more than 15 years, serving to the Latin community in Maryland and Virginia. Thousands are already the students who have happened for the IMA lounges and who could have come to the goal and to communicate in English.
With the arrival of a new year, IMA prepares himself to receive hundreds of students who will initiate classes 12 and on January 19. With this motive we move to his facilities to report with the director of the Academy Yhamel Catacora, Bachelor of Arts, of the University of George Mason, who commented to us more about IMA.
Because you consider important to learn English in these times?
The most obvious account that pushes to hundreds of students to give the first step to learn English it is to gain more money. It is demonstrated that a bilingual one wins more. In these difficult times of our economy, and since it is demonstrated historically, the person or the employee who has more skills, or as is said in English "skills", he is who probably will win more than others or, will retain his work. To learn English increases our labor possibilities and offers to us access to two worlds; this is what duplicates our opportunities. In addition to the financial thing it is the most important that the parents and family mothers learn English not to lose the communication with his children. The children adapt themselves with more facility, perhaps they learn more rapid and that tends to leave in the darkness the parents who little by little understand less his children since they do not speak English. I do not believe that coincidence is all the problems that our Hispanic youth faces. And the fact is that often, the young people and the children have to take important decisions because his parents do not speak English. The absence of the language tends to annul like parents in his teachers' role and that is very dangerous. In summed up accounts it is impossible to have a healthy adaptation to a new system without dominating the language in which this one develops. After Englishman does not learn we relegate ourselves to a condition of the second class, denying to us itself an endless number of daily advantages that touch all the aspects of our lives, the health, the work, the family and inclusive the social circles. Another big reason is to think that if today we are here and tomorrow we go away to another continent, English is the first thing that we must pack in the suitcase, which clearly, is popular and useful in the whole world.
What are the benefits of learning in IMA?
IMA drinks to the student first of all instructors qualified to dictate English as foreign language or English like the second language. Our singular methodology does that each of the instructors could apply different skills that facilitate learning despite the educational or cultural differences. Learning a language bears more that to learn structures and vocabulary, is a cultural process. Our constant support in the investigations of academic entities in the field of the linguistics is one of the elements that every day harden our education. Clearly, to teach we must cultivate ourselves every day, not only investigating in the academic thing, also understanding the needs of our pupils. That's why in IMA we learn all every day. Finally, in IMA we begin the day repeating “You can” it is the phrase that eliminates all the frustrations, and the one that invites to hundreds to discover a route entertained in the direction of learning of English.
What are the classes schedules?
The first class of IMA is given at 7:30 a.m.; and the last one at 7:30 p.m. We have classes in the morning, much early, in the evening and in the night. Also on Saturday or Sunday of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. We are opened 7 days of the week.
How to register?
The first thing to take the phone and to mark (703 671-0838 in Virginia and (301 929-4313 in Maryland, to visit any of our localities in Maryland and Virginia. A representative will be ready to offer to him all the details.
