After a long process of search, selection, nomination and scrutiny, Colonel Roberto L. Hylton assumed officially, on Tuesday, the 10th, the Chief's charge of the Department of Police officer of Prince George's (Maryland).

During a multitudinous ceremony, the Council of the City (City Council) confirmed it in the command of the institution, for which it was nominated months behind by the Executive of the County, Jack Johnson.

Hylton born in Panama and with wide mastery of the Spanish language, turns into the first Hispanic official in coming to Chief of Police officer along the whole history of Prince George's, fact that was highlighted during the emotive ceremony.

The representative Hilda Solís approached towards his ratification like the next Work secretary, after more than one month of delays for questions on his ties with a group partial to the trade unions and fiscal debts of his husband.

The Commission of Health, Education, Work and Pensions of the Senate endorsed on Wednesday, the 11th his nomination in an oral voting, in which only two republicans voted in against. Now, the Senate in plenary meeting remained ready to declare itself on the designation in any moment.

The first programmed voting of the commission on the appointment of Solís, immigrants' daughter of Mexico and Nicaragua, was abruptamente postponed on having been known that his husband had paid recently 6.400 dollars to solve hanging fiscal sequestrations against his business of repair of vehicles. Solís makes sure that the omission was an oversight.

In the White House, several officials said that the democratic legislator and his husband found out about the sequestrations in a newspaper, and that Solís is foreign to the business. But leaders of the commission asked for time to check the excellent documents of the case.
The spokesman of the White House, Robert Gibbs, affirmed that the president Barack Obama does not worry about the debts. Gibbs expressed his hope that Solís should take an oath this week.

The republican senators had already braked for weeks his assertion after there opposed his participation as member of the directorate and treasurer of the independent organization American Rights at Work, who promotes a law project to facilitate the trade unions formation. The initiative is pushed back by managerial groups and most of the republicans.

Senator Mike Enzi, the most prominent republican in the commission, has hinted that the work of Solís in this group would prevent him, secretary of the Work, from taking part like in the debate on the initiative. Solís has answered that the positions that he exercised in the group were not related to the lobbying.

Enzi and most of the republicans in the commission voted for the ratification. The republicans Pat Roberts and Tom Coburn pushed it back.
After the recent delay, several trade unions and feminist and Hispanic groups saturated legislators' offices with letters and telefonemas in favor of Solís's assertion.
