The government of the United States prepares a pilot program across which immigrants with temporary visas as the political refugees or those who have a temporary visa of work or of student will be able enrolarse to the Army and to aspire to the citizenship in a period as short as six months. Unfortunately, this program is in danger, and only the Congress and the new President can do something on this matter.

The school opportunity program, or “DC Opportunity Scholarship Program” in English, provides school scholarships (in sums that do not exceed $ 7.500) to family students of few resources so that they are present at private schools. Almost 10 per cent of these families are Hispanic.

According to a recent study led by the Demonstrative Project of the School Option, or “School Choice Demonstration Project” in English, the enormous satisfaction of those families taking part in the school opportunity program is very high. And the interesting thing is that between the most satisfied it includes Hispanic families. According to the report, “parents of Hispanic speech said that his children are more motivated, more focused and applying itself to extract better notes”.

The fact that this program is in danger of being eliminated he should wake up all, especially to those that have been little improved by the public school system of our country.

The public school system in Washington, DC, is a good example that illustrates the serious of the situation, with the fact that only half of all the children joined the fourth grade can read at his school level. As those beneficiaries of this program, we like Hispanics must support this program to assure that our children should have all the opportunities to enjoy the success. In every Hispanic child joined the school system there exists a future scientist, lawyer and up to President. The Hispanic community has to make sure that our voice should be listened in this important debate in the Acropolis of our country.
