The consul, who comes of exercising similar function in Chicago, said that in his current jurisdiction the community is more dispersed, and often much removed from the capital of the nation. “That's why it is necessary to go where they are, and this is what more fills with enthusiasm me, to work facing the challenges”, it pointed out.
On this matter, Gómez Toledo told that the government of his country has evolved the approach for the attention to his connacionales in the exterior. “Not only we do work in the office or in the offices, there are many other programs in the consular chapter and it is good to go where the population is”, it stressed.
The consul came accompanied by Erika Martínez, of the section of Legal Matters of his legation, and received the welcome of the Director Nelly Carrión and of the President of Washington Hispanic, Johnny Yataco.
Further on, the diplomat announced that one of the tasks that has been proposed is to make the program of mobile consulates grow, “so much in number of outside broadcast units like that of the quantity of persons' visits to that they attend and services that we provide”.
Other one of his initiatives is that the “Window of Health”, which was working occasionally with the mobile consulate, has a permanent character.
In this sense, he remembered that in a recent occasion a medical visit was fulfilled to a city of Virginia, “where we attended to more than one thousand of persons and sent more than 900 documents, between passports, consular registrations and birth certificates, which are the records with major demand in the distant populations of Washington DC”.

As every immigrant, doctor Ximena Hartsock of Chilean origin made of everything in this country for going out forward, from children took care, to clean houses up to turning into teacher. With effort and dedication way was made in the way of the education. She became an assistant director and then school director until they summoned it to be part of the team of transition of the chancellor of the schools, Michelle Rhee in July, 2007. Now it assumes a new professional challenge on having been designated by the mayor of Washington DC, Adrian Fenty to direct the Department of Parks and Recreations of the city.
“ My experience is a big example of that the work and sacrifice always has a reward. I am sure that the United States is a ground of big opportunities and this is the message that I want to transmit to the Latin families”, it pointed out Washington Hispanic Ximena Hartsock.
To only five weeks of being in the charge Hartsock he admits that the Department lacks culturally sensitive designed programs of a way for the Hispanic community therefore it has started working to offer more and better services for all.
Changes and progress
Between his priorities there is to improve the service to the client, to develop more and better programs for all the ages, as well as to create a system to know how many and who take part of the programs that the Department offers.
“ At present the programs are not based on the real needs for the community and that has to change. For example in areas populated by Latin Americans like Park Road and Kalorama there have to be attractive programs for the Hispanics like clinics of soccer, classes of kitchen or gardening for adults”, the head of department recommends.
“ We have programs after the school, but we do not have enough bilingual teachers.
The centers of recreation do not celebrate our Latin festivities”, adds Hartsock, who this summer tells that it will implement a series of movies in Spanish outdoors, between other initiatives for the Hispanic community.
Of the hand with the schools
According to doctor Hartsock a national tendency exists of being employed at joint form with the schools not only across programs but also sharing infrastructures.
In this sense, the Department of Parks and Recreations will develop programs to facilitate the access of the children and young people to the centers of recreation with reasonable tariffs for the diverse programs and even free.
Of equal way they will look for associations to be able to offer more scholarships to the children and young people of low resources.
“ Not only we will look over the entertainment and healthy recreation of the young people but also we are going to create programs during the summer so that the students reinforce his knowledge and should not forget the learned, but in an entertaining way”, expressed Hartsock.
Other one of the initiatives of Ximena Hartsock is to give more visibility to the Department of Parks and Recreations of the District of Columbia and to have a major approach with the community as for what he asks the family parents and members of the community communicate straight across his e-mail to express his needs and worries. | Doctors are afraid of reform of health of Barack Obama |
íWashington Hispanic
AP
Chicago. - The doctors' biggest association of the country is afraid of a plan of public medical insurances, which the president Barack Obama presented them on Monday, the 15th in this city, since the group puts up the interfering of the government in the health system.
Nevertheless, many doctors nowadays are not part of the American Medical Association (IT LOVES, for his initials in English), so that soon his real influence will put itself to the test in the plan of reform of health of Obama.
It is difficult to describe MISTRESS as the voice of the doctors of the country when only the fourth part of them belongs to the group.
Nevertheless, MISTRESS is the professionals' biggest association of the medicine of the United States and the most visible. The group spends big money quantities in strategies to change the national politics that governs the health system.
500 delegates of the group who take decisions – along with the hundreds of thousands of doctors of the country who are not members - listened with attention in Chicago what the chief said to them on his proposal to reform the system.
Obama affirmed in his speech that the health system is a "time bomb" that might lead to the country to “to following the way” of self-propelled General Motors if the necessary legislative reforms are not done.
The president repeated before the MISTRESS in Chicago his argument that the existing system abandons many people that do not have health insurance and forces to an excessively defensive “medicine”, since the doctors are afraid of the demands for negligence and lacking in ethics.
Also it clarified again that it does not support a socialistic medicine and alerted the public before the “tactics of intimidation and alarmism” of the critics who assure the opposite.
Nevertheless, he said to the doctors and professionals of health that would consider to request that all the Americans were provided with a medical insurance, while he underlined that his plan would allow to grant continuous assistance to those who cannot pay for themselves.
In an affirmation that woke up a strong boo between the hearing, the president pushed back like unjust against the patients the idea of putting maximum limits on the judgments for bad medical practice, a measurement that many doctors claim.

The son of the racist elder who shot towards several safety guards, killing one of them in the Museum of the Holocaust on Wednesday, the 10th, apologized to the city and thought that the crime committed by his father “is inexcusable”.
“ I believe that my father must have died in this attack instead of the guard Stephen T. Johns”, affirmed 32-year-old Erick von Brunn. His impactantes declarations were done to the program “Good Morning America” of the chain of television ABC, on Monday, the 15th.
“ I loved my father. But what he did is inexcusable”, it stressed,
Visibly distressed, he told that his progenitor, 88-year-old James W. von Brunn, overwhelmed his family with his racist opinions.
On the same Monday, the Channel 9 WUSA interviewed the mother of the murdered guard, Jacqueline Carter, who resides in the field of Tempering Hills (Maryland). She, very moved, declared that he was excusing the killer of his only son, whose remains will be buried this Friday, the 19th. “I cannot hate this man. If I hated it it might not be better that he”, he argued. And he added: "If he survives, it can be that he manages to get rid of this hate that goes in his heart”.
Meanwhile, the authorities informed that the state of health of James W. von Brunn, resident in Annapolis, the capital of Maryland, stays “critical but stable”, and that it will survive.
This extremely delicate situation prevented the suspect from being present on Monday, the 15th at his first hearing in the federal Court of DC to answer for the charge of premeditated murder and possession of a firearm with criminal intentions in a building of the government.
The above mentioned crimes can lead it to the death penalty, as confirmed judicial sources. That can join these charges of “crime for racial hate”.
The judge John Facciola postponed this presentation for this Monday, the 22nd, in case that the state of health of the accused improves.
On Wednesday, the 10th, shortly before 1:00 p.m., James W. von Brunn came up to the building of the Museum of the Holocaust. On having seen the elder, who was walking with difficulty, the guard Johns, it opened the door to him in complimentary gesture. Von Brunn extracted after.22 of the Second World War re-showed a caliber rifle and turning surprisingly hurt of death the guard and kept on shooting towards others two observers. These answered the fire immediately and the attacker fell down knocked down, with one of the bullets impressing the face and other in the breast.

UPor more than one decade the Congress has realized attempts to regulate to the tobacco industry, but the strong legal profession and economic interests that were putting themselves in game did that the law projects were disappearing like playing cards castles.
Now, fifty years later that the General Surgeon was warning for the first time about the harmful effects of the consumption of the cigaret the Senate it approved for wide majority a legislation to regulate and to control the production, sale and marketing of the product.
The project named Familiar Prevention of the Cigaret and Control of the Tobacco was approved in the Senate on June 11 by 79 affirmative votes and 17 in against, then that the Representatives' House was approving it one month ago.
At present the project is being checked to be dedicated to the president Barack Obama, who will have to sign it and turn it into law.
The legislation gives authority to the Administration of Drugs and Food (FDA, for his initials in English) to control the production and marketing of cigarets and products derived from the tobacco, an industry that moves 89 trillion dollars.
“ An adult smoker does not exist in the country that he wishes his children to turn into smokers. And there exist many smokers nowadays who would never want not to have begun. This has been a long battle. For the first time we are doing the difference. This is a history”, it expressed
Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn), who also is an ex-smoker.
Strict regulations
Under the new regulations the tobacco industry would have to reveal the ingredients in his products and in turn the FDA might prohibit more harmful that are estimated they are more than 6.000 chemists who are used in the cigarets production.
Also there will be able to arrange the reduction of the quantity of nicotine to such a grade that the tobacco is not an addictive substance and thus the smokers who decide to stop smoking will do it easily.
Of equal way the legislation needs the companies of tobacco that enlarge the warnings in his products and include graphs on the effects of the tobacco in the health of the consumers.
With regard to the marketing, the publicity and promotion of the cigarets will be more strict and it will prohibit itself the use of words as "light", "low" or "mild", unless they prove científicamente that the product under these tags they are really less harmful than the traditional cigaret.
