Cecilia Flores, of Salvadoran origin, was three days old of having changed to an apartment in the complex Friendship Place, located in 14400 Gemstone Dr, Woodbridge, IT GOES, without imagining that a fire would leave it in the street and without clothes what puts itself. The produced catastrophe last Thursday, the 26th of June was caused by a short circuit and it had to evacuate all the occupants of the building. Happily human losses did not register, but 14 families, which any more than 50 persons add between children, young people and adults of Hispanic origin were moved to a hotel of the area by the administration of the building, which only cancelled the accommodation for three days and now they have remained his luck left and have lost almost all his belongings.
“ The building was declared useless by the Firemen's Department and without notifying to the tenants the administration of Friendship Apartments it initiated the demolition of the same one. Now these persons do not have where to go and not only they lost his belongings in the fire but also the little that they had left disappeared during the process of demolition of the building”, it tells to Washington Hispanic, Ricardo Juárez of Mexicans without Borders, organization that is supporting and organizing this group of tenants. With help of donations Mexicanos without Borders could have covered the accommodation expenses of at least seven families that, up to the closing of this edition, still remain in the hotel, but soon they will have to look where to live permanently. According to the tenants they have not had any answer on the part of the administration of the building, and that the only thing that they have received maltreatment is.
“ They located members of different families in the same quarter in the hotel, they knew that we did not have what eat because in the hotel it is not possible to cook and they have not approached to know how is life. They have treated us like animals”, it expressed, Cecilia Flores.
On the other hand, the demolition of the building began and they were not alert so that the tenants could return to the apartments to gather the personal articles and any furniture that they could rescue.
Due to the absence of actions and solutions on the part of the persons in charge, the tenants decided to present a public denunciation this week and demanded from Friendship Apartments the finished return of the deposits to be able to look for another housing, a letter where they tell why these persons went out of the complex, which it helps them to qualify to rent another apartment and an economic compensation for the losses.
Washington Hispanic also tried to communicate with the administratrix of Friendship Apartments, but neither we find answers.

| They demand from contractors to use system E-Verify |
Mitzi Mace
Washington Hispanic
The secretary of the safety Department Interns, Janet Napolitano announced that there will be able only to request a contract with the government the employers or companies that surrender to the system E-Verify, across which it happens if his personnel is eligible to work legally in the United States.
The announcement joined the intention of the government, expressed also for the same Neapolitan, of canceling the norm of “not mail” more known as “not match”, which was consisting of notifying to an employer that the name and number of Social Insurance of his employee was not corresponding with the database or records of the agency, for what actions should take immediately.
While many people consider the Neapolitan's announcement to be positive on his intention of canceling the norm “it does not correspond”, but at the same time to strengthen the system E-Verify, the reality is that this decision is only another sign of the urgency of a migratory reform that allows to the million undocumented persons to work legally without need to present adulterated documents, nor to support the development of unscrupulous employers.
Under the new disposition on the E-Verify, also one extends all those contractors and subcontractors who request projects that receive funds under the Law for the Recovery and Reinvestment of the United States. Also, after a review, the E-Verify will apply itself for all the federal requests and for all kinds of contracts financed by the federal government from September 8, 2009.
E-Verify is more effective
E-Verify is a voluntary and free system that allows to the employers to verify the information of the Form of Cross-check of Authorization of Work (I-9) with the databases of the federal government produced by the DHS in society with the Administration of the Social Insurance. In average 1.000 employers register weekly doing a whole of 134.000 registered employers.
“ E-Verify is a simple, effective and intelligent tool that reflects our continuous commitment to work with employers to support a legal workforce. To demand the use of this system from those who request federal contracts will create a more reliable and legal workforce, and it complements the continuous efforts of our Department to reinforce the fulfillment of the laws of immigration and to protect crucial employment opportunities”, said Janet Napolitano.

| They dismiss to Latin schools linkage |

At least 120 Latin linkage of the public schools of the county of Prince George's has been dismissed as a result of the clipping in the budget approved by the council last month and that amounts to 1.700 million dollars. This measurement not only represents losses of jobs but a hard impact for the Latin families, who find in the Latin linkage of the schools the only bridge to interact actively in the education of his children and to understand how the system works because many immigrant family parents do not speak English.
In 2006 the county of Prince George's hired a Latin linkage for each one of more than 200 schools with the intention of encouraging and of improving the participation of the Hispanic parents in the schools of his children.
But, now the program will remain pendent what will allow a saving for the county for 7.6 million dollars.
“ I believe that we must not surprise this situation. They said to us that we might cross difficult years and this is the beginning. This is a symptom of what faces the whole nation”, said Donna Hathaway, member of the educational meeting, who affirmative vote of approving the budget.
What also is true is that the Hispanic population continues in constant growth and the presence of a Hispanic linkage in the schools is fundamental.
As to statistical data of the county more than 17 per cent of 130.000 students of the public schools of Prince George's are Hispanic, six per cent more than a decade ago. Also in at least a third of the elementary schools there are more than 30 per cent Hispanic and at least 16 attends mostly to Hispanic families.
