| The president Barack Obama thought about how to do the peaces with a beer gulp and calm a racial controversy arisen weeks behind, then that a white police officer will arrest for error the black teacher Henry Louis Gates Jr., who was confused like a thief. The president Barack Obama thought about how on Thursday, the 30th of July to calm a racial controversy inviting a beer glass in the gardens of the White House to the involved ones in a case considered racial discrimination and that attracted the attention in the last weeks. During the meeting Obama he admitted that it had chosen badly his way of expressing itself on the arrest of the black teacher Henry Louis Gates Jr on having said that “it might have calibrated these words of different way”. Obama said that it called the white police officer who arrested Gates and who this conversation confirmed to him that the sergeant is a good man and an outstanding official.
Later, the president said that also he had spoken with Gates.
The president caused a small stir days behind when he said in a press conference in stellar schedule that the police of Cambridge, Massachusetts, “acted in a stupid way” on having arrested for alteration of the public order Gates, academician of Harvard and his friend.
On Thursday, Obama appeared suddenly in the daily press conference of the White House in an attempt of calming the debate. He said that he kept on believing that both the sergeant James Crowley and Gates reacted in an excessive way during the incident, but that also their own declarations had something of fault.
“ This has been climbing and I obviously helped to make it climb”, he said. “I want to clarify that with my words election, I believe that regrettably I gave the impression of being insulting to the Department of Police officer of Cambridge and in particular to the Sergeant Crowley. And it might have calibrated these words of different way”.
The president tried to distend the situation on having said that he had invited the police officer and the teacher to be taken “a beer here in the White House”.
The Obama guests enjoyed the beer of his predilection; for example, Obama drank BudLight, the vice president Biden drank a Buckler, the teacher Gates savoured Samuel Adams and the police officer of Massachusetts freshened up with a Blue Moon.
The incident of last week began when the police came to Gates's house then that a passer-by called to denounce a possible robbery. But there was no intruder: Gates was trying to open by force his door, which had been united. The teacher protested for gesticulating of the police officers and he was arrested, although then the charges against him were rejected.
Before the Obama appearance, a group of police officers of Massachusetts of different races supported Crowley and asked that Obama and the governor of this state, Deval Patrick, should apologize for his comments about the case, which they considered to be insulting. Patrick, who is a black, had said that Gates's arrest is the “nightmare of every black man”.
Dennis O'Connor, president of the Association of Top officers of the Police of Cambridge, said that the Obama words were "mistaken" and that the police of Cambridge “are sorry deeply about the inference” of which the arrest was motivated by racial questions.
The sergeant Leon Lashley, a black official who was with Crowley during Gates's arrest, said that it was supporting gesticulating of his partner “to 100 %”.
Gates has said that it returned from a travel abroad and found his united door, therefore he and his driver tried to open it. Gates entered for behind and it was inside the house when the agents came.
The police say that the teacher began to shout when Crowley asked him for identification that should demonstrate that it could be there and that accused the racism sergeant, he did not want to calm down and it was brave.
58-year-old Gates, makes sure that it delivered his identity documents when they asked themselves for them and that Crowley arrested it when he continued it to ask him repeatedly for his name and number of badge.

As part of a national campaign to recover not full wages realized in Alexandria, Virginia the first forum of workpeople, victims of unscrupulous employers that they broke with the wages payment.
In general in this type of the most affected cases it is the day labourers, who for the nature of his work and the informality turn into easy preys for those contractors and employers to whom only it is interesting to find cheap labor.
This situation has worsened in the last months due to the fall of the sector construction and the economic crisis what has generated unemployment and a major need.
The forum was provided with the representatives' participation of community organizations and of the Department of the Work. “We are facing a problem of famine between the day labourers. Before the recession we could demand a minimum wage for 10 dollars the hour for day labourer assistant and now we have to bend up to 5 dollars and above so that they do not pay to us”, it expressed to Washington Hispanic, Roberto Villarroel, leader and coordinator of day labourers of Culmore.
The forum was provided with the representatives' participation of community organizations like the National Network of Day labourers, House of Maryland, trade union LIUNA, Tenants and Close Workpeople, as well as also authorities of the Department of Work, who listened with attention to the testimonies and recommendations to reinforce the laws that protect the workpeople.
During the forum a series of recommendations expressed itself to improve the conditions of the informal workpeople as they are: to investigate the complaints with more force, to make the process easier to initiate a complaint, to create database to identify an employer who refuses to pay, solve the barriers of the language, use administrative hardships like revoking the contractors' licenses that they do not pay and implementing actions criminals opposite to these abuses.
Also there presented before herself a practical guide prepared by the National Network of Day labourers where the workpeople must note down the name of his employer, telephone number and all fact or additional information that facilitates the just claim of his salary.
They ask for law
One of the principal targets of the forums that are realized in different regions of the country is to come with the problem to the ears of the authorities so that they decide to take concrete actions to protect the informal worker.
“ We want a specific law that protects the day labourers because the employers who do not pay know that under a civil action if they say that they do not have the money to pay they are protected and free of real punishment. This situation cannot continue”, said José González, organizer of day labourers of Tenants and Close Workpeople.
In less than six months, González told, that there came to his office more than 56 cases of workpeople to whom they owe him his salary for a whole for 150 thousand dollars and the problem that it affects at national level keeps on deteriorating.

The position is now in charge of Earl Cook, who was the Subchief of the local police. Born in Alexandria, Cook has 30 years in the Department, and on having assumed his new position, he said that “this is an only one change of leadership and not of direction, because we will keep on doing of Alexandria one of the surest cities to live, to work and to visit”.
